August 18, 2009 The tour continues in Edmonton, Calgary and London After presenting Cabane and Solo 30x30 by Paul-André Fortier in Vancouver and She, a piece he created for the choreographer and dancer Robin Poitras, Fortier Danse-Création will return to its Canadian tour of Cabane at the beginning of September with stops in Edmonton and Calgary. The piece will then be presented at the Dance Umbrella festival in London. Continuation of the Canadian tour of Cabane Last spring, Paul-André Fortier began the tour of his piece, Cabane, in Regina at New Dance Horizons and at the Scotiabank Dance Center in Vancouver. The choreographer/dancer continues this tour on September 3 and 4 with two shows in Edmonton, where the Brian Webb Dance Company has invited him to perform. Calgary’s Dancers’ Studio West will then host Cabane on September 10 and 11. Dance Umbrella, London Paul-André Fortier will then take off to London, where the piece will be performed as part of program of the prestigious international festival, Dance Umbrella. The British public will have the opportunity to discover Cabane on October 7, 10, 11 and 12 in an unusual variety of locations including the elegant hall in the Clifford Chance building, a law firm in Canary Wharf; the Smithfield meat market; P3, a former laboratory at Westminster University that has been converted into a hall for artistic events, and the Greenwich Dance Agency. Cabane is actually designed to be presented in traditional theatres, but the piece easily lends itself to the exploration of some surprisingly different interiors. Falling midway between installation and performance in situ, this multi-facetted work revolves around a cleverly-designed, adaptable shack. Within this environment, Paul-André Fortier and visual artist and musician Rober Racine seem to have plunged into a surreal world. Return of Solo 30x30 Paul-André Fortier performed his Solo 30x30 in Vancouver last June/July as part of the Dancing on the Edge festival, using a city’s public space for the tenth time since he created the piece. A total of 300 performances of Solo 30x30 since 2006 – almost a full year of offering his dance to the world’s passersby, a colossal undertaking requiring determination, steadfastness, and grace. In Vancouver, Paul-André Fortier – who is always open to artistic collaborations inspired by the piece – turned the performance over to choreographer and dancer Peter Bingham at the end of last Solo 30x30’s day. The Vancouver native then danced his response to Fortier’s solo. And there’s more… Later this fall, after a visit to the School of Toronto Dance Theatre in November, Paul-André Fortier will go to Lyon to participate in the Entretiens du Centre Jacques Cartier, an annual France-Québec event that takes place in the Rhône-Alps region of France.
