Paul-André Fortier présents Cabane in Liege and occupies a new urban space in Lorient with his Solo 30X30.

After its Canadian tour and four performances at the Dance Umbrella festival in London in fall 2009, Fortier Danse-Création will present Cabane in Liège, Belgium next week. The company will also perform Solo 30x30 at the Grand Théâtre de Lorient in France from April 1 – 30, 2010.

Cabane in Liège

Cabane is on the program for the Pays de danses festival in Liège. The piece will be presented on February 25, 26 and 27, 2010. The first performance will be at the Capitol, in Eupen, the second at the Centre culturel d’Ans in Alleur and the third on the main stage of the Théâtre de la Place in Liège. The Pays de danses festival is a biennale organized by the Théâtre de la Place. It is held in several cultural centres in the province of Liège and in the EUREGIO of Meuse-Rhin, a transboundary territory between Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Created in 2008, Cabane is a piece at the crossroads of installation and in situ performance and revolves around a modular cabin. It was designed to be presented in unusual locations as well as in traditional theatres. Within this environment, choreographer and dancer Paul-André Fortier and visual artist and musician Rober Racine appear to be immersed in a surrealist universe.

The perfect fusion of these elements stimulates myriad interpretations, according to the individual response of each viewer (…) And even when the action seemed to have reached its zenith and exhausted all the possibilities offered by the various media, the two artists surprised the audience with a subtle yet effective coup de théâtre, ending on a vibrantly spirited note that prompted a more than well-deserved ovation.” – The Spectator, London, United Kingdom, October 14th, 2009.

Solo 30x30 in Lorient, France

On the invitation of the Grand Théâtre de Lorient, Paul-André Fortier will occupy a new urban space with Solo 30x30 from April 1 – 30, 2010. This piece, which has attracted a great deal of interest since its creation in 2006, will have been presented in 11 cities around the world, including three on French territory. Solo 30x30 is a 30-minute in situ piece that is presented outdoors in the same location every day at the same time for thirty days.

The Grand Théâtre de Lorient has supported Paul-André Fortier’s work for several years by regularly scheduling performances of his pieces. It also co-produced Solo 1x60 – Un jardin d’objets (2006) and Lumière (2004). Paul-André Fortier is also a member of the Grand Théâtre’s sponsorship committee since 2003.

The Solo 30x30 blog will soon come back to life. Photos, video clips, texts and commentaries will take the pulse of the daily performances.
