Montréal, November 18, 2011 — Fortier Danse-Création and Galerie de l’UQAM are pleased to launch Solo 30x30, a book devoted entirely to Paul André Fortier’s work by this name. Everyone is invited to attend the book launch, which will take place on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 5:30 pm at Librairie Le Port de tête (262 Mont-Royal East, Montréal). The choreographer/dancer, artist Yann Pocreau as well as the book’s other authors, will all be present. Refreshments will be served. Solo 30x30 Paul-André Fortier has traveled the world since 2006 to perform his 30-minute solo for 30 consecutive days in a variety of unusual dance sites: a warehouse roof in Nancy, a bridge in Newcastle, a vacant lot in downtown Montréal, and public spaces in Rome, London, New York and Yamaguchi. In 2011, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Fortier Danse-Création, Solo 30x30 was restaged by Place des Arts and Danse Danse, in l’Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme in Montréal. When a dance company and a university art gallery join forces for a book project like this one, it is a sign that the artist’s work has transcended its own discipline. For this book, photographer Yann Pocreau has produced a series of original photographs of the solo. While the 30-page photo portfolio is the core of the volume, the book also includes articles by Marie Lavigne, director of Place des Arts, Louise Déry, director of Galerie de l’UQAM, and Guylaine Massoutre, professor, critic and author, all of whom have an in-depth understanding of the choreographer’s work. The book also includes a selection of photographs from the solo’s archives. These shots were taken by different photographers around the world: Gregor Belasi, Samuel Bianchini, Ginelle Chagnon, Daniel Denise, Martine Doucet, Robert Etcheverry, Gaudin&Ramet, Hugo Glendinning, Daniel Helbert, Pete Huggins, Alana Kraaijeveld, Denis Lavoie, Miguel Lopez and Rumi Tanabe. While in no way comprehensive, this book nevertheless provides an impressive overview of Paul-André Fortier’s artistic vision, in space and over time. The graphic design of the book is by Marc-André Roy. Paul-André Fortier.
